The trial for a Calgary man accused of murdering his children began on Monday.

James Bing Jun Louie pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. He cried as crime scene photos were introduced into evidence.

In November of 2009, police received a frantic call from a mother concerned about her children's welfare.

When police arrived at the Panorama Hills home they found the bodies of a 13-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl.

They continued searching the home and found a man and a woman involved in a struggle upstairs.

The woman was taken to hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

The mother of Jason and Jane Louie, Ying released a statement to the media Monday morning, asking for privacy throughout the trial:

"Those who are close to me have expressed their inability to even begin to imagine what I am going through. Most days I, too, can't comprehend or accept what happened. I love my children dearly and I want them to be remembered fondly by everyone who knew them.

I trust justice will be served. With God's grace and peace, my hope and prayer is that I can learn to live with this permanent, frightening scar that I know will never go away."
