Calgary fire crews were called to a blaze at a business in an industrial area in the city’s southeast on Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the 5900 block of 84 Street S.E. at about 6:15 a.m.

“When the crews first arrived, the fire was quite large so they called in additional apparatus. We also have no water supply out here so they did call in what’s called a tender, which supplies water to our trucks,” said Wayne Bonderud, CFD Central District Chief. “The chemicals were far enough away from the fire that there wasn’t a concern.”

Fire officials say the blaze started in a shed outside of the building and then spread to the inside.

“The fire started on the outside of the building in a shed with filters for the paint booths. Fire spread inside, a bit of damage inside the building, crews got here quick, knocked it down, there was no injuries,” said Bonderud.

One person was inside the building at the time and they were able to get out safely.

The fire is under control and a fire investigator is working to determine a cause.
