Fire crews were called out to a vehicle fire in a parkade at Chinook Centre on Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the north parkade at the mall just after noon and found a luxury car on fire inside.

Battalion Chief John Cherweniuk says the fire was in the engine compartment of the Porsche which was parked in the P1 section of the lot.

‘There was cars beside it in the parkade, fortunately it was confined to the engine compartment and the crews were able to get a hand line down through the main doors of the parkade and put the fire out before it actually grew in size and spread to the other vehicles,” said  CFD Battalion Chief, John Cherweniuk.

Crews limited access to the parkade while they ventilated the structure.

“The problem with parkades is you get a lot of smoke created so it’s the smoke that creates a hazard for us and causes potential hazards for other occupants of the parkade or the mall,” said Cherweniuk.

No one was hurt in the incident and fire investigators are looking into a cause.
