A Southwest home destroyed in a weekend fire belonged to well-known musician Irene Besse.

Besse raised her family in the home on 42 hundred block of Elbow Drive and lived there for over 40 years.

She moved several years ago after he husband died.

“It hit me very hard, “ said Besse. “I wasn't expecting it.  It was quite a blow because of the memories and I still had some pictures and boxes that I hadn’t taken out.”

Besse recently put the home on the market for $1.8 million dollars and renovations were scheduled to begin this week.

There was no insurance on the property and now the home is a total loss.

“We weren’t living there anymore. It was too too expensive so unfortunately it wasn’t insured,” said Besse.

Besse moved a prized piano out of the home about six months ago.

The arson unit and firefighters are investigating the cause of the blaze.
