Firefighters were called out to a fire at a farm west of the city on Tuesday morning.

Area residents noticed the fire near Cochrane Lake Way at about 9:00 a.m. and someone called it in.

Mitch Jacques lives nearby and says emergency crews were already at the scene when he went to see what was going on.

“It was a two-story house. An old abandoned farm house and it burned down pretty quick,” said Jacques.

Jacques says the flames were higher than the trees and the smoke was heavy.

“The house was fully engulfed,” said Jacques. “Initially when it started burning it was a big plume of black smoke and then as they started going at it with the water it turned into white smoke but it burned really quick, there’s no doubt about that.”

“Noticed a white cloud in the sky in this vicinity. As I was coming down the driveway then I noticed the flames coming out of the windows,” said Bruce Racicop. “No one could live in it. It had been in disrepair for sometime so.”

Racicop says the property used to be a dairy farm.

Area residents say the house and farm land is owned by private investors and is slated for future development.
