Flooding concerns in the hamlet of Carseland have prompted Wheatland County officials to encourage residents of several homes to vacate the area.

On Sunday, officials confirmed the west side of the community is flooding and streets are underway.

More than a dozen residents of the hamlet, located approximately 30 kilometres east of Calgary, have been asked to evacuate from their homes.

Crews have placed sandbags around the lift station and man holes to prevent sewer backups.

A reception centre has been opened to provide information and shelter the displaced.
