A number of provincial parks in Kananaskis Country will be closed this long weekend because they were washed out by flood waters last week.

Officials say there has been significant damage to the area and many of the roads and trails are on unstable ground and are not safe.

The closures include:

  • Peter Lougheed Provincial Park
  • Evan Thomas Provincial Recreation Area, where Kananaskis Village is located
  • Elbow Sheep Wildland Provincial Park
  • Wyndham Carseland Provincial Park south east of Calgary is closed indefinitely.

Alberta Parks says it will offer full refunds for campground reservations cancelled between now and the end of July and campers can call 1-877-537-2757 to request a refund.
