If you use Calgary’s car sharing service car2go on a regular basis you’ll notice a new vehicle has joined the fleet on city streets.

Starting on Monday, the company’s familiar blue and white, Smart Fortwo vehicles will be sharing the road with new four-door Mercedes B-Class vehicles.

“We’re really excited to bring these four-door cars to Calgary and we hope that we’ll see a lot of members using them as well,” said Amanda Lam, Community Marketing Manager for car2go Calgary.

The new cars were rolled out for the first time in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto and can fit five.

Officials say they are launching the larger cars in response to member demand.

“Because we’re a member focused company, we thought we’d give it a shot with the pilot program in Calgary,” said Lam. “We’ve seen a high adoption rate for car2go in Calgary, we have over 82,000 members and we’ve made over two million trips earlier this year so we thought Calgary would be a great place to start.”

The four-door cars will cost the same as the two-door vehicles during the pilot program and can be rented for 41 cents per minute.
