Residents in Bowness are concerned that a gas station leak discovered last year could be much bigger than first thought.

Houses in the area have undergone several environmental tests after gasoline seeped into the ground last April.

In August, a resident on Bowness Road called Alberta Environment to report the smell of gasoline in the basement.

It turns out that up to 9000 litres of gasoline had leaked from the Gas Plus station nearby.

Three families were told to move out immediately.

Now it looks like even more families could be affected.

There is no word yet if more families will be told they have to move out.

As part of an environmental protection order an engineering company has been hired to assess how far the gas has leaked. The final report isn't complete yet.

One woman, whose home wasn't on the list to be vacated, says she is moving from the area because she has lost faith in the entire process and how the leak has been handled.

Alberta Environment says it is too early to say if the contamination has spread.
