Construction on one of the most frustrating routes to drive in Calgary is almost complete.
For nearly three years, rotating lane closures and bumper-to-bumper traffic has been the norm for drivers who use Glenmore Trail.
Construction on the causeway between Crowchild Trail and 14 Street, S.W., started in 2005.
The upgrades cost nearly $170-million and include a new pedestrian bridge and additional lanes.
But things will get a lot worse before they get better.
Between now and September 17th, major delays can be expected along Glenmore Trail.
From 7 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday, eastbound Glenmore will be completely closed at 14 Street. Traffic will be detoured while paving crews are at work.
From 10 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday, westbound Glenmore will be reduced to one lane between 14 Street and Crowchild Trail for paving.
The entire Glenmore causeway upgrade is expected to be completed in early October.
