Three weeks after one of Calgary's most controversial landmarks opened, it already has graffiti on it.

"It's just awful, it's brand new, it's beautiful and it's already defaced," says one Calgarian using the Peace Bridge on Saturday.

CTV Calgary noticed the tags on the Peace Bridge on Saturday morning. There are between 10 and 15 graffiti symbols spanning the entire east side of the bridge.

"It's shameful, is what it is, and I mean it's fine if you don't agree with the bridge but you don't need to vandalize it and ruin everybody else's party," says another person walking on the bridge on Saturday.

Calgary Bylaw was taking pictures of the vandalism on Saturday to help police solve the case.

"We catch a fair number of taggers. In fact, I've caught a few taggers myself and I know our graffiti experts have a lot of success capturing taggers and they'll be investigating this one with the same vigor," says Duty Inspector Paul Stacey from the Calgary Police Service.

Insp. Stacey says if the taggers are caught, the courts could decide to charge the culprits with restitution meaning they would have to pay the cost of cleaning up the mess.
