Greenview residents met on Tuesday night behind closed doors to discuss the impact of their controversial new neighbour.

The Calgary Drop-In Centre is planning to convert the old Quality Inn on Edmonton Trail into a housing unit for the working poor.

They aim to have units open by next month.

But that isn't sitting well with homeowners in Greenview, who are afraid it will lower their property values and bring unsavoury characters into their neighbourhood.

"Nobody is saying there is no need for this or that these are bad people, but there is one bad person in every group and it only takes one or two people to turn a small group into a lot of trouble," says Greenview resident Dale Farr.

But the meeting also had a number of people who think the complex is a great idea.

"I think what the Drop-In Centre is doing is a really good idea. I believe a lot of what is going on is based on fear of what this is going to be," says Drew Brown, homeless advocate.

Officials from the Drop-In Centre weren't invited to the meeting on Tuesday, but say there will be a strict screening for residents.
