One man has been airlifted to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary following a Tuesday night bear attack in southeast British Columbia.

RCMP say the man spotted a grizzly bear and two cubs approximately 50 metres away. The hunter yelled in an attempt to scare off the bear family but the sow attacked the man. The hunter fought off the bear with his bow and arrow but he suffered significant, non-life-threatening injuries in the attack.

The hunter was airlifted to Calgary by STARS Air Ambulance.

Conservation officers are attempting to track the grizzly.
