As residents and business owners in the town of High River continue to recover and rebuild from June’s flooding of the Highwood River, another sign of progress has emerged, as council has reached an agreement with a Calgary based firm to create a plan to redevelop downtown.

O2 Planning + Design Inc., of Calgary, was selected from a field of 14 consultant groups which had expressed interest in the project.

Utilizing input from residents and business owners, the firm will develop an urban design strategy involving architectural design, street and parking layouts, and future land use.

“We are thrilled with the opportunity and hope that work on the Plan can commence within the next week,” said Douglas Olson, president of O2 Planning + Design Inc. following Monday’s announcement.

Ian Fawcett, High River’s acting manager of planning and development services, says the Area Redevelopment Plan is a huge project and will help shape the community for years to come.
