The Town of High River is one of the hardest hit communities in southern Alberta and the area is still shut down to residents.

RCMP and military officers were going door-to-door on Friday night to ensure that everyone was out of their homes.

ATCO crews went along with the officers to shut down gas if the lines were compromised.

Officials say that they believe all stranded residents that called  911 have been evacuated.

The mandatory evacuation remains in effect and the town is working to restore essential services.

Emergency services is also trying to coordinate the rescue and transportation of pets that have been left behind.

RCMP say that the security of residents’ homes and property is a high priority for them and that they are preventing public access to the town.

In addition, there will be roaming officers patrolling the town.

Sewer service is still down but fresh water wells are being brought back on line slowly.

Telus has a crew in its building and is working to improve communications to the area.

The Foothills School Division has announced that it will be closing all schools in its system for the remainder of the school year but students will still have a chance to write Diploma exams.

Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools will also be closing its schools for the remainder of the year in High River.

Evacuated residents can still go to the Blackie Arena, Nanton Recreation Complex, and Heritage Heights School.

A boil water order is in effect and town officials say water is limited.
