A 17-year-old boy is dead following a Tuesday morning crash on Highway 27, approximately 10 kilometres east of the hamlet of Torrington.

Emergency crews, including members of the Three Hills RCMP detachment, responded to a crash at the intersection of Range Road 252 and Highway 27 at approximately 8:10 a.m. after an SUV collided with the trailer of a semi.

According to RCMP officials, a westbound Jeep Patriot struck the broadside of a trailer attached to a southbound semi tanker that had entered a lane of the highway. Heavy fog blanketed the region at the time of the crash.

The driver of the SUV, a 17-year-old boy from the town of Olds, was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been released. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

The driver of the semi was not seriously injured in the crash.

RCMP continue to investigate the fatal collision.
