The man accused in the city's eighth homicide is no stranger to police and neither is the home in which the victim was found.
On Friday, November 4, police were called to a home in the 3600 block of 39 St. N.E.
When officers arrived they found the body of 45-year-old Cherry Lotus Ledesma inside the residence. A man was taken into custody at the scene.
An autopsy was conducted on Ledesma and determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Police believe Ledesma may have been dead in the home for as long as 36 hours before officers found her.
Gregory Sanders Houle, 44, of Calgary, is charged with second degree murder in connection with the death.
It is not the first time police have been called to the home.
"What I can tell you is that the accused was known to police," said CPS Staff Sergeant Doug Andrus.
In the last twelve months, police have been called to the home 37 times. Police describe 31 of those calls as alcohol related disturbances. The other six were considered domestic related calls.
The most recent calls to the home occurred just last week.
On Tuesday November 1, police were called in to deal with a domestic argument and then on Thursday November 3 they were called again for what police will only describe as an alcohol related incident.
The head of the CPS Domestic Conflict Unit says there will be a thorough review of all police interaction with the couple.
"What could we do better next time? We always learn something for every case we investigate, I can also say that other social agencies have been involved with this residence," said CPS Staff Sergeant Patty McCallum.
Police say last year they responded to more than 16,000 domestic violence cases.
Gregory Houle appeared in court on Monday and is scheduled to appear again on November 21.
