The man who kidnapped a 3-year old boy from his home in Sparwood B.C. last year has pleaded guilty.

Randall Hopley, 46, appeared via CCTV from a jail in Kamloops on Monday.

Hopley surprised the court by admitting that he snatched Kienan Hebert from his bed last September and led police on a frantic manhunt.

The boy was returned to the home unharmed four days later and Hopley was later arrested near the B.C. / Alberta border.

Kienan Hebert's father was shocked to learn of the guilty plea.

"It's good to know we can start living our lives knowing this is over. we can start living our lives again," said Hebert. "We definitely have learned people can take more than just a TV out of your house at night so we definitely have our house locked up pretty tight at night."

Hopley will be sentenced in July and faces up to ten years in prison.

The Heberts say they don't plan to attend the sentencing.

Kienen turns four-years-old next week.
