A Calgary man has died while kayaking at Lundbreck Falls in southern Alberta. He plunged to his death, after trying to paddle over the 12 metre waterfall at the popular tourist spot.

29 year old Jaron Kooperberg went over Lundbreck Falls and then witnesses say he was pushed underwater by the force of the water, and when he surfaced several minutes later, attempts to revive him failed.

Kayakers intentionally go over the falls, as part of the sport.

Kooperberg, an experienced kayaker, had done this successfully in the past.

RCMP say because of spring run offs, water levels are higher than usual.
