Spock beamed back into our city Saturday for a traditional Calgary welcome at the BMO Centre.

Calgary Mayor, Dave Bronconnier, white-hatted Leonard Nimoy at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo.

Nimoy is best known for his role as Spock on the original Star Trek series.

Storm troopers from Star Wars fame guarded the ceremony.

Nimoy graciously accepted the cowboy hat and then sat down to a question and answer period with fans.

Nimoy says he's retiring from his 60-year film career.

He says he's enjoyed his visit to Alberta and has always enjoyed coming to Canada.

"I've always felt strongly at home here in Canada. I've worked all over Canada, including acting and directing. I directed two films in Toronto, Three Men and a Baby for one was directed in Toronto," commented Nimoy.

About 15,000 fans are expected at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo this weekend.

It's for fans of science fiction, fantasy, and horror.

The Expo began in Calgary in 2006 and has grown to become the largest event of its kind outside of Toronto.
