Family members of 22-year-old Jayden Kolesar, the Lethbridge man who has spent the last two weeks confined in a hospital room in India, continue to await his return to North American soil.

Earlier this month, Jayden was admitted to hospital for what Indian officials declared the man’s own safety. Jayden had been visiting a network of friends when his motorcycle experienced mechanical issues in a rough section of India. Authorities allowed the traveller to spend a weekend in the local jail before transferring his to a psychiatric hospital in the city of Baharampur.

During a Thursday night hearing, a court judge approved Jayden’s release but the Lethbridge man remains in hospital as officials require patients to provide proper identification and documents before leaving the building.

Prior to his hospital admission, the 22-year-old traveller lost all of his documents including his passport, travel visa and birth certificate.

Jayden’s father and aunt have travelled to India in the hope of bringing him home. Despite the perceived progress in Indian courts, the family says they will not breathe easy until Jayden is allowed to exit the medical facility
