A man sought in connection to the shootings of two Mounties in rural Alberta has been charged with two counts of attempted murder.

An Canada-wide arrest warrant has been issued for Sawyer Clarke Robison, 27, who has been on the run for nearly two days. The RCMP has warned he could be as far as Ontario.

The charges were laid in connection to a confrontation that took place on Tuesday, February 7.

RCMP Sgt. Patrick Webb told reporters on Thursday that they have reasonable probable grounds to lay the charges.

RCMP officers were executing a search warrant on a rural property near Killam, south east of Edmonton when the situation escalated.

Two RCMP officers were injured in the incident.

Constables Sheldon Shah and Sidney Gaudette were airlifted by STARS to hospital in Edmonton for treatment, and RCMP said they are in stable condition.

A civilian was killed in the incident and RCMP said on Thursday they believe he is Brad Clarke. An autopsy has been ordered to confirm the victim's identity and cause of death.

Robison's father appeared at a news conference Thursday with the RCMP, appealing for his son to turn himself in.

"Come back to us. Swallow your hurt and listen to the quiet world," Ray Robison said, his wife and a friend by his side. "Sawyer, we love you. We want to have you back and we know how hard it may be for you to come back to us."

RCMP released a photo and description of Robison, when he was considered a person-of-interest in the case.

Robison is described as:

  • 188 cm (6'2") tall
  • 90 kg (200 lbs.)
  • Brown hair
  • Brown eyes
  • Appears to be very fit

RCMP said they believe Robison could be driving a black, 2000 Chevrolet Silverado with Alberta License plate UZE 545.

Police say Robison is considered to be high risk and believe he is armed. However, they do not think he is a risk to the public.

RCMP has secured the site of the shoting and is working with ASIRT to process evidence from the scene.

Police are warning members of the public not approach Robison and to call the RCMP Tip Line at 1-780-385-3502 or 911 to report any sightings of him, or the vehicle.
