The driver of a stolen vehicle who left a trial of damaged property behind while trying to evade police on the weekend is facing charges.

RCMP officers in Chestermere were notified by Calgary police about a stolen vehicle that had fled the city at about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday.

The vehicle hit a police unit as it fled the area and then tried to evade police at a high-rate of speed.

Police say the vehicle crashed into two parked vehicles and then a garage before coming to a stop.

The driver tried to run from police but was caught at a nearby property with help from a canine unit.

The suspect was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Michael Donald Lloyd, 38, is now facing a number of charges including; Dangerous Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident X2, Flight from Police X 2, Mischief X 4, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, Failure to Comply with a Condition of a Recognizance X 2.

RCMP say Lloyd was wanted on eight outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest.

Police say no one else was injured in the incident and further charges are pending.
