A man is in hospital after being tasered by a Calgary police officer Saturday night.

Police say when they responded to a call about a break-in at a home in the 500 block of 42nd Street SE they found an agitated man hiding in the basement.

When the suspect did not follow police orders to come out, he was tasered.

Police say the taser appeared to be unsuccessful, but the man became ill and was rushed to hospital.

Police would not comment about the incident Sunday, saying only that the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has been called in to investigate.

The team looks into all cases that involve police and serious injury.
