CALGARY -- A man was rushed to hospital Friday morning following a house fire at a property just west of Calgary city limits.

Fire crews were called to the 200 block of Heritage Place S.W. at 5:35 a.m. Friday.

EMS took the man to Foothills hospital in serious but stable condition

There were an undisclosed number of residents inside the home at the time of the fire, but no one else was injured.

Water had to be transported from Calgary, with crews setting up a large container — often called a Bambi Bucket — to help battle the flames.

"With the number of resources that we did have here yes it was a bit of a handful,” said District Chief Marcus Weckesser from Rocky View County emergency services.

Crews received assistance from Redwood Meadows and the TsuuT’ina First Nation among other neighbouring areas.

“We had a lot of iron on site to fight this fire,” added Weckesser.

He added it was brought under control by late morning but the damage was extensive and destroyed the garage of the home.

The Red Cross has been called in to offer support to the residents.

Officials will begin investigating the cause, which has yet to be determined.
