A Calgary motorist who was shot and injured by police in February 2010 after striking an officer with his vehicle has now been charged.

Police say on Feb. 8, 2010, at around 3 a.m., two officers were trying to pull over a vehicle that was being driven erratically in the southeast McKenzie Lake area.

The vehicle stopped on a dead-end street and an officer approached it on foot.

Suddenly, the driver hit the gas and hit the officer. Both officers opened fire, striking the suspect as he fled the scene.

He was later located and treated for gunshot wounds.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, which investigates incidents involving police where there is serious injury or death, recently found the actions of the officers to be justified.

Shaun Andrew McVee, 22, has been charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm, impaired driving causing bodily harm, hit and run causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.
