A man who was originally charged with weapons trafficking in connection to the murders of Colin Reitberger and Anees Amr has now been charged with two counts of manslaughter.

Reitberger and Amr were fatally shot in the parking lot of a southeast Superstore on May 21, 2017.

Christian Joffre Ouellette, 20, of Calgary was charged with two counts of first-degree murder last June.

On Wednesday, police arrested a suspect in the case.

Blaise Delaire, 26, was charged with one count of weapons trafficking on March 1 and he is now facing two counts of manslaughter with a firearm.

“Based on our investigation and based on the evidence that we gathered, the file was forwarded to the assigned Crown prosecutor and the Crown prosecutor decided that in relation to Mr. Delaire, the charges approved were manslaughter with a firearm,” said Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit.

Delaire is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

Police are still looking to identify the driver of a red SUV and say it was used to drop Ouellette off at a gas station on Freeport Blvd, N.E. after the homicides.

“This investigation is still ongoing so at this point we would like to identify the driver of the Durango and determine what his involvement was or what his knowledge was at the time so suffice to say that the investigation is still ongoing and it’s possible that we could lay charges if evidence is gathered to support those charges,” said Chisholm.

The vehicle is described as:

  • Red Dodge Durango SLT
  • Likely a 2004 to 2006 model
  • Sunroof
