Family members have now confirmed that the body found in a rural area near Airdrie is that of 24-year-old Jessica Rae Newman, who was missing since March.
Family confirmed the news to CTV on Tuesday morning.
Newman's mother, Rhonda Steward, says that the police had told her to fear the worst as time passed with no sign of her daughter. "Police told me chances of finding her alive drop with time," she told CTV over the phone on Tuesday. "I thought I was prepared, but you're never prepared."
At about 4 p.m., a work crew at a site near Range Road 285 and Township Road 264 located the body of a woman.
The Airdrie RCMP responded and secured the area for their investigation.
CPS said on Tuesday morning that the body could be connected to an open missing person investigation that was opened in March of this year, but stopped short of making the connection to Newman.
An autopsy is currently underway and the Medical Examiner is expected to confirm that it is indeed Newman and determine her cause of death.
Newman, a mother of three, went missing on March 10, when an ex-boyfriend dropped her off at her home in Forest Lawn.
Police and her family had made numerous appeals for tips in her disappearance, but nothing came up.
There is no information on any possible suspects in her disappearance.
