A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of his brother in northeast Calgary early Thursday morning.
Police were called to the 0-100 block of Rundlehorn Terrace N.E. at about 1:00 a.m. following reports a man indicating a man was in medical distress.
Emergency crews located a severely injured man who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been released.
A 34-year-old man, identified as the brother of the stabbing victim, was taken into police custody for questioning. According to police, an argument had broken out between the two brothers and the dispute escalated into a stabbing, with the older brother fatally wounding his 29-year-old sibling.
A second-degree murder charge is pending against the older brother. The suspect's name has not been released as he has not been formally charged.
The situation has put a number of residents in the area on edge.
Rob Bridger, who lives four doors away from where the body was found, said he didn't hear anything overnight and was surprised to meet police officers at his front door. ""I told them I didn't know there was even a stabbing."
He says he was shocked by the incident, especially because he's only lived there for a short time. "It's a shocker, right? You think you live in a safe neighbourhood and stuff: hopefully it's a safe neighbourhood, but it's a shocker to know that four doors down, somebody was stabbed."
Shawali Noori, who lives even closer to the crime scene, says he got home late on Wednesday night and didn't see anything happening, but by the time he woke up, he found police officers everywhere. "Everyone gets shocked when you wake up and the police is all around your house. It's scary, you know?"
Noori says he never met the residents of the unit at the centre of the investigation, but knows they are considered to be a problem by many of the other residents.
