Andrea Dion

Andrea Dion joined CTV Morning Live Calgary in July of 2019.

She hails from Fort St. John, B.C., but has spent the last few years travelling and moving around to pursue her passion for journalism, most recently as the Anchor and co-host of Global News Morning – Halifax.

Andrea graduated from Mount Royal University in 2012 with a Communications Degree, majoring in Journalism, and dove right into the world of broadcast. A few opportunities included working in London, England and Istanbul, Turkey.

Her first gig was in Dawson Creek, B.C., as an Anchor, Newsroom Supervisor, Weather Specialist and Sports Anchor. Prior to working in Halifax, she worked in Regina as a Live Reporter, Anchor and Weather Specialist.

Andrea takes pride in getting to know the people she encounters, whether it’s in studio telling their story or out in the community.

In her spare, Andrea likes to drop into yoga or spin class and spend time with friends and family.

On September 9, 1960, CTV News Calgary (CFCN) went on the air for the first time and was the first independent television station in Canada.

The first broadcast was a 30-minute news program, followed by two movies, bringing then owner H. Gordon Love’s life-long dream to reality.

CFCN became a member of the Canadian Television Network (CTV) in October 1961 and one of the station’s longest running shows, The Buck Shot Show, started in 1967.

CTV News Calgary, created a number of firsts in Canadian television, as an owned and operated local of CTV News.

  • First to produce a Canadian Football League game from the prairies for CTV
  • Instituting instant replay in Western Canada
  • Brought Crime Stoppers to Calgary
  • Initiated Child Find on television

Canada’s largest telecommunications company, Bell Canada Enterprises, has owned CTV News Calgary since 2000.
