Andrea Dion

Andrea Dion joined CTV Morning Live Calgary in July of 2019 as the traffic anchor/reporter.

Andrea hails from Fort St. John, B.C. but has spent the last few years moving around to pursue her passion for journalism, most recently as the anchor and co-host of Global News Morning in Halifax.

Her areas of expertise and interest include politics, women’s rights, not-for-profit groups making an impact in the communities they serve, human rights, current events and human interest stories.

Andrea holds a communications degree, with a major in Journalism from Mount Royal University. She has worked in London, England and Istanbul, Turkey.

Her first gig was in Dawson Creek, B.C., as an anchor, newsroom supervisor, weather specialist and sports anchor. Prior to working in Halifax, she worked in Regina as a live reporter, anchor and weather specialist.

Andrea takes pride in getting to know the people she encounters, whether it’s in studio telling their story or out in the community and emceeing various events.

She is a registered yoga teacher and is a supporter of the local fitness community.  

She speaks English.

On September 9, 1960, CTV News Calgary (CFCN) went on the air for the first time and was the first independent television station in Canada.

The first broadcast was a 30-minute news program, followed by two movies, bringing then owner H. Gordon Love’s life-long dream to reality.

CFCN became a member of the Canadian Television Network (CTV) in October 1961 and one of the station’s longest running shows, The Buck Shot Show, started in 1967.

CTV News Calgary, created a number of firsts in Canadian television, as an owned and operated local of CTV News.

  • First to produce a Canadian Football League game from the prairies for CTV
  • Instituting instant replay in Western Canada
  • Brought Crime Stoppers to Calgary
  • Initiated Child Find on television

Canada’s largest telecommunications company, Bell Canada Enterprises, has owned CTV News Calgary since 2000.
