Graduating from the Loyalist College TV Broadcasting course in 1989, Todd McDermott  moved west and worked at several television stations in Southern Alberta until CFCN/CTV offered him a place to shoot creative video in 1998.

Throughout his career, he has always worked and looked to get the shot just right.

Calgary-based McDermott was a member of the Western Canadian News Photographers Association where he won awards for shooting excellence including first place in the documentary category and third place in the spot news category. McDermott was also honoured with an RTNDA award for video shoot on a five-part series on the crystal meth issue in Spokane, Washington.

"You never know who you will meet or where you will be on a daily basis," said McDermott. "Every day is different from the next. Meeting new people, hearing their stories and telling them is what makes this career so interesting."
