A Calgary liquor store's effort to cash in on Remembrance Day has outraged a local military support organization.

Dave Murphy founded "Thank a Soldier". He took to his blog this week to protest a liquor store chain's Remembrance Day themed flyer as disrespectful.

The ad tells customers to "Remember to stock up for the long weekend" and features alcohol bottles growing alongside waving poppies.

"I'm sure when John McCrae wrote Flanders Fields, he wasn't thinking about poppies waving in alcohol," says Dave Murphy.

According to Olympia Liquor, their creative team has standing instructions to tie in every holiday with a flyer. By the time the management realized this one may be perceived as inappropriate, it was too late.

The company admits the advertisement was a mistake.
