As of October 2020, Vanessa Arrate is no longer with CTV News

Vanessa Arrate joined CTV Lethbridge as a video journalist in January 2020, moving from Calgary where she was born and raised.

Graduating in 2019 from the Radio, Television and Broadcast News program at SAIT, Vanessa majored in broadcasting but did a radio practicum in Airdrie at Air 106.1 where she covered  News, writing online articles and hosting her own weekend show.

During her time at SAIT, Vanessa used her assignments as an opportunity to interview various Calgary Stampeders and a National Geographic explorer, did a project on Canadian Black History and did a project on the increasing issue of goldfish being released into river, ponds and lakes in Alberta and how they pose a threat to native fish species.

Vanessa currently covers everything from court reporting, agriculture, sports (specifically CFL and NBA), crime, environment, entertainment and politics.

In her spare time, Vanessa enjoys traveling, learning about animals and hasn’t missed a Stampeders home game with her mom since her first one when she was a week old. She also loves learning about her Cuban and Dutch-Canadian heritage. She has two dogs — one from the Calgary Humane Society and one from the pound — and a bunny from the Central Alberta Humane Society (Red Deer).

She has been involved with a variety of fund raises such as Easter Seals, started her own fundraiser for the Calgary Zoo during the 2013 floods, collected socks and brought them to the Mustard Seed along with her SAIT classmates, volunteered at Inn from the Cold in Calgary and currently volunteers at the Soup Kitchen in Lethbridge with her co-workers

Vanessa has a communications diploma from SAIT, Heroes of the Flood Award (2013 Floods Calgary), an Equine Certificate, started her own charity to save tigers when she was 12 and is a part of the National Geographic Explorer Circle. Vanessa speaks English.
