There are new revelations today about a Canmore man shot and killed by RCMP earlier this week.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team confirms the dead man is Jean Steven Boucher.

Those who knew the 62-year-old say they want Boucher remembered for more than the way he died.

Bill Frankish says he knew Boucher for many years. He worked for him as a maintenance repair man at the Rundlestone Lodge in Banff in the 1990's.

He wants people to know Boucher was more than a gun toting robbery suspect who was killed by police.

"He was a caring person and he would engage if you were engaging with him. If he knew you he was a good friend,"

Boucher was a suspect in a string of armed robberies in Canmore.

RCMP shot and killed him Monday, when officers say Boucher waved a handgun at them during a traffic stop.

We're learning Boucher has children in both Fort McMurray and in Quebec. One is an active serving member of the RCMP.

The mounties say the son was estranged from his father.

Frankish believes Boucher was facing some hard times when he died - too old to fit in to the young mountain community and too old to start over.

ASIRT is investigating the police shooting.
