Snowfall warnings and special weather statements have been issued for Calgary & parts of southern Alberta and Environment Canada says another 5 to 10 centimetres of snow is expected to fall by the end of the day.

The weather agency says a low pressure system over the southern part of the province is responsible for the snowfall and wind gusts of 50 to 60 km/h could develop in the afternoon.

Calgarians are used to significant snowfall in the spring and the soggy weather didn’t dampen plans for Good Friday.

The Calgary Zoo’s Easter Eggstravaganza attracted a good crowd and officials say the snow leopard and red pandas love the snowy conditions.

“We’re a hearty bunch here in Calgary so, it’s been pretty busy,” said Melissa Ledingham, Corporate Program Coordinator, Calgary Zoo. “This is perfect weather for our animals. A lot of them love this type of weather so the snow leopards are really visible right now, the red pandas are out. The Canadian Wilds animals will probably be out and active as well, just because it’s not too hot and they like it.”

Golfers are getting ready for the upcoming season and some stepped on to the mats at local driving ranges to hit a few balls.

“I’d love to be able to play on a real golf course but this is better than nothing I guess,” said Chip Burgess. “It’s nice to be out here hitting balls, it’s nice to be able to swing the clubs a little bit.

The sun will come back on Saturday but the chilly weather is expected to stick around for the weekend and into the early part of next week.
