Morley was one of the hardest hit locations in Southern Alberta with roads washed away and homes under water and the community is putting out the call for volunteers and drivers.

The floodwaters are now receding and the damage is being assessed.

Many people in the area have been shaken, but the community remains strong as they begin the process of rebuilding homes and lives.

The Morley, Siksika, and Stoney Nakoda are in urgent need of volunteers and drivers to sort and deliver donations.

They are hoping to ship everything out of the Sportsplex out to residents in Siksika, Eden Valley and Morley as soon as possible.

They also need dollies, carts and a forklift. Anyone who can help with these items is asked to call Mike at 403-837-4846.

Wednesday is the last day that donations will be accepted at the Sportsplex but Buffalo Run Golf Course is still accepting donations and needs food, water and cleaning supplies.

Bridges Social Development (Bridges) has been working in First Nations communities surrounding Calgary to help with much-needed relief and restoration.

Tuesday in Morley, more than 50 people from Calgary and Canmore volunteered their time, energy, and resources to ensure that evacuated Morley residents were well cared for. They put in long hours hauling equipment, sorting supplies, and entertaining exhausted children.

Morley residents themselves, some who have been evacuated from their homes, are helping one another. Morley is a First Nation community comprised of three bands, the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley. Cathy Dixon, the wife of Bearspaw Nakoda Nation Chief, Darcy Dixon, says “I am so proud to see the community coming together, all three bands!”
