The Calgary Fire Department has a new repair facility for its trucks.

"We put in ground pits for the guys and we have ten hoists in the facility too so life is going to be great here and technicians are loving it," says Harm Boskers the head of the new facility.

The state-of-the-art garage has 18 bays and, for the first time, allows mechanics to work inside on the trucks.

"We know that we were operating at about 62 percent efficiency in the winter time just because the majority of our work was going on outside ...we're hoping we will now operate in the 90 percent efficiency range," says Chief Bruce Burrell.

The chief says, over time, the new maintenance facility will save taxpayers money but cutting repair time on trucks.

"I think there's huge benefit to Calgarians but it's also the right thing to do, to get these things turned around as quick as possible, back on the street and providing the service," says Chief Burrell.
