An early morning fire in the northwest Calgary community of North Haven has seriously damaged two homes and left one man with minor injuries.

Fire crews say the blaze broke out at shortly before 2 a.m. in the 4000 block of Norquay Drive N.W.

When they got there they found a shed, located between two homes, fully engulfed in flame.

The fire had also spread from the source to the adjacent homes, extending into the soffits and attics of both buildings.

Three people inside the two homes were able to escape, but one man suffered minor injuries to his hands during his attempts to extinguish the fire.

Fire crews managed to quickly knock down the fire on the exterior of the home, and then sent crews inside to help put out any hidden fires in the attic.

Both homes suffered significant damage and will need to be repaired.

Fire crews remain on scene to monitor the homes and extinguish any hot spots.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
