A 32-year-old man is dead following an incident at the 7th Street CTrain station early Monday afternoon, Calgary police have confirmed.

The incident took place at the CTrain station at 7th Ave and 7th Street SW on the west side of downtown shortly after 3 p.m. According to police, the victim fell between two CTrain cars and was dragged a short distance when the train moved.

The man, who police say had been reported missing from the Foothills Medical Centre on Monday morning, died around 4:30 p.m. at hospital.

CTrain service was disrupted for several hours following the incident, but resumed shortly after 7 p.m. Monday.

Alberta Health Services issued a statement.

"AHS strives to find a balance between minimizing the risk of patients leaving our facilities while at the same time delivering compassionate, high-quality treatment in a caring, trusting environment," the statement read.

"All incidents such as this are reviewed extensively and we are continually looking at ways to improve our services, including security and treatment of patients."
