Wednesday marks the last show for Oprah Winfrey, and Albertans who have benefited from and been on the show are remembering her 25 years as a host.
Trina Marr is a Calgary woman who has been on the Oprah show three times.
In 2004, she made her first appearance with her husband. It was then that she found out her husband was cheating on her because he thought she gained too much weight.
"You have parts of your life exposed and you are not necessarily prepared for the ramifications of 25 million people knowing your dirty laundry," she said.
Divorced, remarried, and thinner, Marr has been back on the Oprah show two more times.
The final time, Winfrey mentioned her company and Marr said her business grew by 2000 percent in one day.
The ‘Power of O' as it is called, also touched an Alberta Charity.
Lethbridge resident Linda Kinnel founded an orphanage in Tanzania. Winfrey took an interest, and Kinnel says that changed everything.
Booksellers have also felt the show host's effect.
Oprah's book club inspired reading groups around the world, launching the careers of many authors, some of them Canadian.
Since it began at a time when sensational talk shows exploited their guests, Winfrey's style changed daytime television.
Those who have appeared on her show have only praise for the women dubbed the Queen of Daytime TV.
While she did a lot to help others, it helped Winfrey herself as well. She is now considered to be the wealthiest woman in the world.
