Drivers are being encouraged to drive with caution as winter conditions made for slippery Saturday travel on highways and roads in the Calgary area.   

Police are advising travelers to drive for the conditions and to allow for additional distance when stopping.

Officers have responded to a number of crashes throughout the city on major thoroughfares and in residential communities.  By noon, 67 crashes had been reported to police, eight of which resulted in minor injuries. 

Road crews are out in force with plows and sanders on priority one routes.

As of 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning, the Alberta Motor Association indicated highways north, east and south of Calgary were rated as Fair to Poor. 

RCMP have closed a section of Highway 9 between Oyen and Hanna due to bad road conditions.  A high volume of vehicles have slid off the road and into the ditch.
