One person is in critical condition after a vehicle was rear-ended in an intersection in the city’s northeast on Wednesday night.

Emergency crews were called to a crash on Memorial Drive and 28 Street S.E. at about 10:45 p.m.

Police say a car carrying four people was stopped at a red light when it was rear-ended by a truck.

A man in his 20s, who was a pssenger in the backseat of the car, was taken to hospital in critical condition and the other three people in the vehicle were treated for minor injuries.

The westbound lanes of Memorial Drive, from 28th to 36th Street, were closed for several hours.

Police say speed is not a factor in the crash. The driver of the truck was not injured and was taken into custody at the scene.

Police are investigating and charges are pending.
