Pedestrian in life-threatening condition after crash
Calgary police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle early Thursday morning.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Third Street and Fifth Avenue S.E. at about 7:35 a.m. for reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.
Police believe a Tesla, driven by a man in his 60s, was travelling east on Fifth Ave. S.E. and went through an intersection on a green light.
At the same time, a man in his 50s was crossing the street against the signal when he was hit by the vehicle.
The adult victim was taken to Foothills Medical Centre in life-threatening condition.
The driver remained at the scene, police said in a media release. Speed or impairment are not considered factors.
