Calgary police have now identified a person of interest they are seeking in connection with the city’s latest murder.

At about 11:15 p.m. on September 9, police were called to the intersection of 16 Avenue and 19 Street N.W. for reports of a shooting.

Police found a vehicle stopped in the middle of 16 Avenue and a woman inside suffering from serious, life-threatening injuries.

The woman was taken to hospital where she later died.

Police have identified the victim as Kallen Brianne Carothers.

Investigators have also been looking for another person who was in the car when the shooting took place.

Police have identified him as Osman Mohamed, of Edmonton.

He is described as:

  • Black
  • 21 years old
  • 178 cm or 5’10”
  • Slim build
  • Brown eyes
  • Black hair

Investigators believe that Mohamed sustained injuries in the incident that would have required medical attention.

“We’re still early in the investigation. This was a targeted attack, not a random attack and we are still trying to determine if Miss Carothers was the intended target or Mr. Mohamed was the intended target,” said CPS Detective Michael Cavilla. “We are looking at him as a witness in this case and can’t comment on past criminal history.”

A suspect vehicle has also been identified in the case and police are looking for the vehicle and driver who may be connected to the shooting.

Police say they do not believe the shooting was gang related but that they don't yet know a motive for the attack.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Mohamed, or can identify the vehicle, or has any other information about this incident is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234, or by calling the Homicide Unit Tip Line at 403-428-8877.
