A search is underway for a 28-year-old man who jumped into Revelstoke Lake from a 25 metre bridge but never surfaced.

On Wednesday evening, Revelstoke RCMP and EMS responded to a location approximately 20 kilometres north of the Revelstoke Dam following reports of a missing swimmer. According to witnesses, the man had jumped from the Laforme Creek Bridge into nearly 15 metre deep water but did not return to the lake’s surface.

Revelstoke RCMP and Revelstoke Search and Rescue searched a section of the lake by boat but were unable to locate the man, who has been identified as a resident of Coldstream, B.C., a community in the Okanagan Valley.

Wednesday evening’s search was suspended because of darkness. Search crews returned to the lake on Thursday morning and resumed .

The identity of the missing man has not been released.

Revelstoke Lake is located north of the town of Revelstoke B.C., approximately 400 kilometres west of Calgary.
