Calgary police have one person of interest in custody but have not laid any charges.

Alberta's Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Jonathan Denis released a statement on Friday.

“It is with great sadness that I express my condolences to the friends, family and colleagues of Foothills Community Peace Officer Rod Lazenby.

Tragedies such as this remind us all of the selfless acts peace and police officers make to protect our safety each and every day. On behalf of all Albertans, I want to recognize Mr. Lazenby for his service and assure his loved ones that his sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

An autopsy will be performed on the officer’s body on Monday to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, the front desk at the District 8 office has been closed for the rest of the day.

Police are advising members of the public to use the District 6 office at 8325 Bonaventure Drive S.E. if they need help.
