An investigation into suspected drug trafficking resulted in a team of more than 100 RCMP members descending on a rural property near the hamlet of Markerville, Alberta on Wednesday.

The search involved members from the Red Deer, Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake, and Innisfail RCMP detachments as well as police service dogs and the RCMP special tactical operations team.

During the execution of a search warrant of the 130 acre property, approximately 35 kilometres southwest of Red Deer, officers seized:

  • A Mercedes (undisclosed model)
  • Dirt bike
  • Trailer
  • Methamphetamine
  • Cocaine
  • Steroids
  • GHB
  • A number of firearms
  • Rail torpedoes (explosives)

Members of the Edmonton Explosives Disposal Unit of the RCMP removed the rail torpedoes from the premises.

While RCMP members searched the property near Markerville, members of the Lloydminster RCMP detachment executed search warrants at a residence in Lloydminster.

At the Lloydminster home, officers seized:

  • A number of electronic devices considered evidence in the Markerville trafficking investigation
  • Sawed-off shotgun
  • Methamphetamine

As a result of the search of the Lloydminster, two men and a woman were arrested. Drug and weapon charges are pending against the unidentified suspects.
