Red Deer RCMP is looking for a man after a clerk was reportedly shot with a sawed-off shotgun during a robbery.

Police say that on Wednesday night, at about 11:20 p.m., a lone male entered Fas Gas in West Park in Red Deer.

He approached the clerk and brandished a sawed-off shotgun.

When the victim placed the money on the counter, the suspect fired the weapon, striking the clerk in the hand and face.

The suspect then fled the scene. He was last seen westbound on Cronquist Drive riding a bicycle.

The clerk was transported by paramedics to Red Deer Regional Hospital in serious condition, but was then airlifted by STARS to a hospital in Calgary.

The victim's current condition is unknown.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • approximately six feet tall
  • medium build
  • sideburns and receding hairline
  • clean shaven
  • tattoo on right shoulder of what appears to be a maple leaf or crown

He was seen wearing eye glasses, a dark navy blue jersey – basketball type, dark pants/jeans, dark footwear, and a black baseball cap.
