It’s becoming a little easier to register as an organ donor in Alberta.
Next time you renew your license you will be asked if you want to sign up on the province’s new Organ and Tissue Donation Registry.
All registries will be providing the service, although only half are ready to go now, the others will provide the service sometime over the next 10 months.
The online registry was launched at the end of April and so far more than 4,100 Albertans have registered their consent to become donors.
However, the next of kin still make the final decision.
Alberta Health is trying to increase organ and tissue donor rates. The number of people donating has decreased by nearly 40 per cent over the past ten years.
